Artistic statement
A Canadian experimental artist, Costin Tuta creates large-scale surreal charcoal drawings and installations inspired by the hidden geometries of the natural world.
Based in Quebec, his practice centers on monumental figurative drawings that are transformed into bas-relief installations. His work draws from the fluid and subtle structures found in nature, evoking forms of the human body alongside botanical and organic elements, such as the microcosmic architecture of plant life.
Working in charcoal, Tuta employs a rigorous figurative technique that he subsequently disrupts through layered interventions. These include the integration of experimental materials—most notably epoxy resin cast in geometric configurations—creating a dialogue between matte and reflective surfaces, precision and organic flow.
Tuta’s work seeks to reestablish a connection between the archetypal harmony of nature and a contemporary society shaped by technology, consumer culture, and conditioned modes of perception.
